2992 (2026). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister of Transport: What contingency plans, if any, has NZTA put in place to maintain connectivity for East Cape communities and businesses while SH2 through the Waioweka Gorge remains closed?

Hon Chris Bishop: NZTA advises there is no suitable detour route for SH2 through the Gorge. It’s not possible to compile a contingency plan using local roads as these do not provide a connection between Opotiki and Gisborne.
