2988 (2024). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister of Climate Change: Does the Minister agree with the National Adaptation Plan that the government must ‘reduce and manage the impacts of climate hazards on homes and buildings’, and if so, why have 1400 new homes recently been granted consent in flood plains in Auckland?

Hon Simon Watts: New Zealand’s first national adaptation plan, published in August 2022, sets out a six year work programme to help make New Zealand homes, infrastructure and communities more resilient to climate change and manage priority climate risks. Delivering an adaptation framework is a priority for this Government. This is needed to support all adaptation options to reduce and manage the growing impacts of climate change on home and buildings. This includes gathering and sharing climate risk information so that people can make good risk informed decisions.
