2980 (2026). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister for Biosecurity: Which confirmed water bodies have been detected with invasive gold clam (Corbicula fluminea) incursions in New Zealand, including approximate location, date of detection, and method of detection, by list?
Hon Andrew Hoggard: I am advised that Corbicula fluminea was first detected at Bob’s Landing in the Waikato River near Lake Karāpiro in May 2023, and is now found from Lake Maraetai to Tuakau. It was found in Lake Rotomanu, a small man-made lake in Taranaki, in November 2025. In these instances, the detections were made visually.
