2974 (2025). Hon Damien O'Connor to the Minister for Trade and Investment: What strategies, if any, is the Minister of Trade and Investment pursuing to minimise the impacts of potential US tariffs on New Zealand trade?
Hon Todd McClay: We have a strong trading relationship with the US and want this to continue. Trade between New Zealand and the United States is well balanced. New Zealand is best served by a world in which trade flows freely governed by rules. We remain focused on driving our own growth agenda, including improving trade access for New Zealand businesses around the world. We are doing this by negotiating, implementing, and strengthening free trade agreements, resolving non-tariff barriers, defending access rights secured under existing agreements, and engaging actively in norm-building institutions. This ensures that more New Zealanders can access the opportunities and benefits afforded by international trade.
