2961 (2026). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister for Biosecurity: Which drinking water supply locations are considered at risk from Corbicula fluminea infestation, including under any projected spread scenarios, and what mitigation measures, if any, are in place for each location?
Hon Andrew Hoggard: I am advised that there are water supply locations in the Waikato River from Lake Maraetai to the outflow at Port Waikato where Corbicula fluminea is known to be present. Earth Sciences New Zealand and Lincoln Agritech are undertaking programmes of research to better understand current, and potential impacts of Corbicula fluminea on water quality in New Zealand. Individual water authorities have put in place measures to reduce the impact of Corbicula fluminea on their infrastructure.
