2928 (2025). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Police: What is the total FTE dedicated to addressing family violence and/ or Intimate Partner Violence over the last 5 years broken down by year and unit?
Hon Mark Mitchell: As the Member will be well aware, all police officers are involved in addressing family harm in their communities. Every recruit through police college receives family harm training. I refer the Member to the attached table, which shows the total number of FTE staff dedicated specifically to family harm work over a five year period by role classification. Casual and contractor staff are not included, nor are staff on leave without pay or parental leave as of those dates. These numbers do not include roles related to child protection, sexual assault, or victim support. Fluctuations are a result of the continuous review of demand and deployment decisions at the district level. The New Zealand Police system includes a large number of position/group descriptions and acronyms for staff who may fit into these categories; it isn’t a clearly defined cohort, and these roles are embedded in groups around the country with different reporting lines. They represent a best effort towards identifying the staff in those requested roles and use a consistent approach for the years shown.
