2923 (2024). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister for Mental Health: Does the Minister acknowledge that approximately 26% of people with eating disorders attempt suicide, and if so, what steps is he taking to reduce this number?

Hon Matt Doocey: I have requested advice from officials on eating disorder services and I will consider this advice before commenting on what further interventions may be required. Preventing suicide is a collaborative effort across government, communities, and families, guided by the national strategy Every Life Matters – He Tapu te Oranga o ia Tangata: Suicide Prevention Strategy 2019–2029 and the Suicide Prevention Action Plan 2019–2024 for Aotearoa New Zealand. Work to develop the next Suicide Prevention Action Plan for 2025-2029 is currently underway.
