2921 (2026). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister for Biosecurity: Has he assessed whether current biosecurity settings are sufficient to prevent human-mediated spread of Corbicula fluminea?
Hon Andrew Hoggard: There is a collaborative national management plan in place for managing the spread of Corbicula fluminea. This approach focuses on pathway management, early detection, and local delivery with regional partners and is reinforced by controlled area notices.
Regional Check, Clean, Dry advocacy programmes deliver at-place engagement to influence high-risk river and lake users to undertake good biosecurity practices and stop the spread of invasive species.
The treatments promoted through the national Check, Clean, Dry programme are scientifically proven to stop Corbicula fluminea and other freshwater pests from being carried between waterways.
