2880 (2025). Hon Dr Megan Woods to the Minister of Climate Change: How has the Government, if at all, developed commitments to indicative levels for gross greenhouse gas emissions and carbon dioxide in partnership with iwi/Māori under Te Tiriti o Waitangi/The Treaty of Waitangi in its second emissions reduction plan, as recommended by the Climate Change Commission in their 2023 report "Advice on the direction of policy for the Government's second emissions reduction plan"?
Hon Simon Watts: I am advised that the process for developing the second emissions reduction plan (ERP2) included thorough and meaningful consultation with iwi and Māori, in line with the Crown’s obligations under the Climate Change Response Act 2002. This included engagement with Pan-Māori organisations, such as the National Iwi Chairs Forum, and Post Settlement Governance Entitites. ERP2 also includes a chapter (chapter 15) setting out key initiatives in relation to Māori, including the Māori Climate Platform.
