Hon Dr Megan Woods to the Minister of Climate Change: How has the Government, if at all, ensured that iwi/Māori are empowered to lead the weaving of mātauranga Māori into policy design, development, and implementation at central and local government levels in the second emissions reduction plan, as recommended by the Climate Change Commission in their 2023 report "Advice on the direction of policy for the Government's second emissions reduction plan"?

Hon Simon Watts: The second emissions reduction plan includes mātauranga Māori through the Māori Climate Platform and engagement with Iwi and Māori. The plan provides resources to support Māori participation in emissions policy and decision-making, such as funding for iwi-led emissions reduction projects and technical support for Māori landowners in carbon markets.
