2758 (2024). Tangi Utikere to the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries: What decisions, if any, has the Minister made regarding the temporary fisheries closure and restrictions on fisheries methods over Tutukaka Harbour surrounding areas and why?

Hon Shane Jones: Following consultation, I imposed temporary fisheries closures and a method prohibition over Tutukaka Harbour and surrounding areas. The closures apply to several species of shellfish, garfish, rock lobster, and some other species. Using nets is now banned, with some exceptions. In making my decisions, I was satisfied that the legal requirements contained in the Fisheries Act had been met. The measures came into effect on the 5th of February 2024.
