Camilla Belich to the Minister of Education: How many cases of workplace bullying were referred to external investigators, mediators, the Employment Relations Authority, or other external bodies in each calendar year since 2015 in relation to any staff, employees, secondees, contractors, or office holders for whom the Minister has responsibility in connection with the portfolio, if any?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) that a total of seven workplace bullying cases have been referred externally since 2020. Data is not readily available for information prior to 2020. This is due to the way the Ministry recorded information at the time. I am advised the Education Review office (ERO) referred five cases of workplace bullying to external investigators or mediation since 2015. Education New Zealand has had no recorded instances of workplace bullying from 2015 to 2025. The New Zealand Qualifications Authority has not had any cases of workplace bullying referred to external investigators since 2015. A breakdown by calendar year has not been provided because the number of cases each year is fewer than five and releasing this information could compromise the privacy of individuals.
