2199 (2026). Camilla Belich to the Minister of Education: What was the total value of financial settlements, compensation payments, or ex gratia payments relating to workplace bullying in each calendar year since 2015 in relation to any staff, employees, secondees, contractors, or office holders for whom the Minister has responsibility in connection with the portfolio, if any?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) that since 2022, a total of $13,630.23 was paid to individuals in relation to workforce bullying related settlements, compensation, or ex-gratia payments. Data is not readily available for information prior to 2022. This is due to the way the Ministry recorded information at the time. I am advised by the Education Review Office that eight individuals were paid a total of $188,872 since 2015 in relation to workforce bullying related settlements, compensation or ex-gratia payments. Education New Zealand and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority have not made any payments relating to workplace bullying since 2015. A breakdown by calendar year has not been provided because the number of cases each year is fewer than five and releasing this information could compromise the privacy of individuals. This is also my response to written parliamentary question 2204 (2026).
