2117 (2026). Hon Julie Anne Genter to the Associate Minister of Justice: Will allowing the adoption of adult children be considered as part of current or future work programmes relating to the Adoption Act 1955, and if not, why not?

Hon Nicole McKee: Allowing for the adoption of people aged 20 and over is out of scope of the current reform work, which focuses on preventing harm to children through international adoptions. Work on domestic adoption law reform remains paused at this time.
