2102 (2026). Tamatha Paul to the Minister of Police
Written Question
Published date: 18 Feb 2026
2102 (2026). Tamatha Paul to the Minister of Police: What is the ratio for charges versus warnings given for driving offences (non-alcohol related) between September 2024 – September 2025 broken down by ethnicity?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I refer the Member to the attached table, which shows the ethnicity of people who have been proceeded against for offences classified under the Australian and New Zealand Standard Offence Classification (ANZSOC) Division – ‘13 Traffic and vehicle offences’, excluding all alcohol-related offences and offences where alcohol was determined to be a factor. The table is broken down by the percentage of proceedings that resulted in a charge and the percentage that resulted in a warning, for each ethnicity, between 1 September 2024 and 30 September 2025.
I am advised that ANZSOC Division – ‘13 Traffic and vehicle offences’ includes all vehicles offences and is not limited to motor vehicles. Infringements notices have been excluded as ethnicity is not captured for these.
I am further advised that there are limitations to ethnicity recording. Only one ethnicity can be recorded per individual, and if a person identifies with an ethnicity that is not listed, their ethnicity is recorded as ‘Other’. An individual may commit multiple offences during this period and will be counted once for each offence they were proceeded against for.
This is also my response to Written Parliamentary Question 2109 (2026).
