Hon Penny Simmonds: While Cabinet papers belong to the Minister, the agency is responsible and has authority for the Regulatory Impact Assessment and seeking exemptions. The following data was extracted from RIA Online showing the number of exemptions the Ministry for the Environment sought, and had approved, for the Environment Portfolio: Exemptions sought: 5 Exemptions approved: 4 (One not approved because it was 100 Day Plan and therefore outside RIA requirements and didn’t need an exemption) Caveats: The data only includes formal exemption applications submitted to the RIA Online system and therefore doesn’t include any more informal/outside the system interactions. The data only includes exemption requests which originate from the Ministry – a joint proposal led by another agency will not appear in the data.
