2076 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What actions, if any, have been taken in the last quarter to expand access to internship programmes for pacific learners in the health sector?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that actions taken between October and December 2023 to expand access to internship programmes for pacific learners in the health sector resulted in 28 Pacific students graduating from two summer internship programmes. Both programmes are part of broader work supported by Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora to provide academic, pastoral, and cultural support for Pacific students studying NZQA-accredited medical and health-related studies, to strengthen pathways for Pacific people entering the health workforce.
