2005 (2026). Hūhana Lyndon to the Minister for Universities: What is the approximate, maximum cost of each domestic dental training placement to the government, excluding additional student loans and allowance costs?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: The Government does not specifically fund domestic dental training placements. Instead, the Government funds tertiary providers through tuition subsidies on an Equivalent Full Time Student (EFTS) basis; and this funding can be used to cover the cost of placements. The per-EFTS tuition subsidy for dentistry is $61,395 per annum, which does not reflect any additional costs to the Crown incurred through student loans, allowance costs, or Government spending on the final-year Fees Free scheme.
