1815 (2024). Lan Pham to the Minister of Conservation: Does the Minister have any concerns about the potential arrival of Avian Flu in Aotearoa and the potential impact on aquatic wildlife?

Hon Tama Potaka: I am concerned about the arrival of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in Aotearoa given the impact it has had on wildlife, including aquatic wildlife, elsewhere in the world. The Department of Conservation has advised that they are working closely with the Ministry for Primary Industries to continually monitor the situation here and overseas, and to coordinate activities in preparation for any incursion by this disease.
