1686 (2025). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: Did New Zealand make any contributions, or take any positions, during recent United Nations considerations on adding gender apartheid to a Draft Crimes Against Humanity Convention, and if so, what was the rational for these contributions?
Rt Hon Winston Peters: The New Zealand government has not yet formed a view on whether a future convention should include the concept of gender apartheid. New Zealand has reaffirmed our openness towards considering language directed towards enhanced prevention and accountability measures for sexual and gender-based crimes in a future convention on the prevention and punishment of crimes against humanity. New Zealand's position is set out in detail in the following documents: - New Zealand's written comments to the United Nations General Assembly's Sixth Committee: www.un.org/en/ga/sixth/78/cah/newzealand_e.pdf - New Zealand's statement on the definition at the most recent discussions at the Sixth Committee on the way forward for a proposed treaty: https://www.mfat.govt.nz/en/media-and-resources/united-nations-general-assembly-sixth-committee-resumed-seventy-eighth-session-cluster-two
