1588 (2024). Darleen Tana to the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries: Have the fishing related mortality limits for Hector’s and Maui Dolphins been exceeded, if not, how close are they to being exceeded?
Hon Shane Jones: I am advised that none of the six South Island Hector’s dolphin local and subpopulation Fishing-Related Mortality Limits (FRMLs) have been exceeded since FRMLs were implemented in December 2022.
The Otago FRML is the only South Island Hector’s dolphin FRML considered close to being reached.
Details on the six FRMLs are provided in the following table.
