1580 (2024). Darleen Tana to the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries: What actions, if any, is he taking to promote seafood industry engagement with community/hapū on issues like the kina infestation in Northland that scientists are saying is "Due to overfishing" of natural predators?

Hon Shane Jones: I am actively encouraging engagement between the government, industry and local communities, including hapū, to address issues like the kina barrens in Northland. This engagement is facilitated through dedicated hui, workshops, ongoing discussions within the Iwi Fisheries Forums, and direct dialogue with individuals.
