1477 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for Vocational Education: What were the priority industries, as determined by the Tertiary Education Commission, for receipt of the Strategically Important Provision Fund, and the transitional grant funding under section 556 of the Education and Training Act, which was granted to support polytechnics and institutes of technology?
Hon Penny Simmonds: For the purposes of the Transitional Support for Strategically Important Provision Fund, all foundation education provision is deemed strategically important.
Identifying strategically important provision under Delivery at Levels 3 to 7 (non-degree) on the NZQCF (DQ3-7) Fund required TEC to determine priority industries. TEC determined these priority industries to include: Agriculture, Horticulture, Primary Industries, Fishing, Trades, Construction, Engineering, Health and Wellbeing, Science, Nursing, Veterinary Nursing, Transport, and Architectural Technology.
The Minister for Vocational Education determines the use of section 556 grant funding.
