1470 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Attorney-General: What is the conflict of interest, if any, that required the delegation of powers contained in gazette Notice Number 2024-vr881?

Hon Judith Collins: I identified a potential conflict of interest in relation to the proposed fast-track consenting legislation and asked to be removed from any consideration of it. Minister Goldsmith has therefore been appointed as Acting Attorney-General to exercise the law officer functions in relation to that legislation. Details regarding conflicts of interest are not generally disclosed, in order to ensure the confidentiality of Cabinet proceedings, to maintain the effective conduct of public affairs and, in some cases, to protect personal privacy. This has been the approach of successive administrations.
