1466 (2026). Camilla Belich to the Minister for Emergency Management and Recovery: Does New Zealand currently have any skills and workforce shortages in areas such as geotechnical engineering, earth sciences, and emergency management that are critical to responding to landslides and slips?
Hon Mark Mitchell: For a small country such as New Zealand there may be a limited number of subject matter experts available to support large-scale emergency events. To help mitigate this it is the role of CDEM Groups and NEMA in national emergencies to coordinate the deployment of expertise to where it is best needed.
