Teanau Tuiono to the Minister of Health: Does the Minister think the health system prioritises hospital-based intervention over community-led, whānau-centred, and preventative models of care; if so, does he believe that model of care is consistent with the Crown’s obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi?

Hon Simeon Brown: I am committed to building a healthcare system that has patients at its centre. This includes improving system performance in ways that support earlier intervention and better access to services outside hospital settings, including through strengthened primary care. I refer the Member to Written Parliamentary Question 53 (2026). Our Government is focused on ensuring all New Zealanders, including Māori, have access to timely care.
