1419 (2026). Hon Priyanca Radhakrishnan to the Prime Minister
Written Question
Published date: 26 Feb 2026
1419 (2026). Hon Priyanca Radhakrishnan to the Prime Minister: Did the Chief Executive of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet raise any concerns, at the 21 May meeting of the National Security Board, or at any other meeting, that the legislative test for renewing the designation of the American Proud Boys was not met?
Rt Hon Christopher Luxon: Corrected reply: The Chief Executive of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet did not raise any concerns regarding the recommendation to re-designate the American Proud Boys as a Terrorism entity at the National Security Board’s meeting on 21 May 2025. Any concerns would have been minuted.
As per the clarification regarding my responses to Written Parliamentary Questions 1412 (2026), 1413 (2026), and 1491 (2026) , and the wording in the Chief executive’s email of 24 June 2025 to the National Security Board (“Following NSB, I reread the Statements of Case attached to the recommendation to the PM and considered the case remained strong for The Base, but less so for the American ProudBoys.”) it was when he re-read the Statements of Case for the American Proud Boys and The Base on 16 June 2025 that he no longer considered that the legal threshold for re-designation had been met in relation to the American Proud Boys.
