1401 (2024). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for National Security and Intelligence: What briefings, memos, reports or other written advice has he received on whether the political wing of Hamas should be declared a terrorist group, listed by date, title and agency?
Rt Hon Christopher Luxon: The statutory decision-making powers relating to the designation of terrorist entities under the Terrorism Suppression Act 2002 (Act) falls within my portfolio of Prime Minister. I am responding to this Written Parliamentary Question in my capacity as the Prime Minister. Since receiving my Ministerial Warrant for my Prime Minister portfolio on 27 November 2023, I have received from officials in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) the following reports on the designation of Hamas under the Act: • Terrorist Designation of the Entirety of Hamas Under the Terrorism Suppression Act - 18 January 2024 • Decision to Designate Hamas as a Terrorist Entity - 16 February 2024. In addition, I receive fortnightly reports from the National Security Group, within the DPMC, which may contain updates on progress of the policy work being carried out on this matter. I have also received briefings from the Policy Advisory Group, a business unit of DPMC, on this issue, however I am not releasing the titles of these briefings. .
