1397 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: What records, if any, are kept on the purpose of export control exemptions?
Rt Hon Winston Peters: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade keeps no record of exported items that are subject to exemptions. If an item is exempt under the New Zealand Strategic Goods List or the catch-all controls, an export permit is not required.
The purpose of exemptions in the New Zealand Strategic Goods List are to facilitate the activities of New Zealand Government departments and officials offshore and to reduce the administrative burden for sporting and competition shooters departing New Zealand.
The purpose of exemptions in the catch-all controls Gazette Notice is to prevent businesses and research entities from needing to seek approval for exports involving low risk destinations and products.
