1373 (2024). Hon Marama Davidson to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: What specific actions, if any, has the Government taken since its joint statement with the Prime Ministers of Australia and Canada on 15 February 2024 to work toward securing a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza?
Rt Hon Winston Peters: New Zealand has clearly and consistently stated, and will continue to state, its position on the urgent need for a sustainable ceasefire both publicly in statements, including at the United Nations, and in engagements with international partners.
New Zealand’s messages to the parties have been consistent:
• The impact of the conflict on civilians is appalling and New Zealand wants to see an end to the violence.
• Civilians must be protected according to international law.
• Hostages must be released immediately and unconditionally.
• An immediate humanitarian ceasefire is urgently needed.
Much more humanitarian aid must be allowed into Gaza for civilians.
