1372 (2025). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Speaker of the House of Representatives: What additional resources have been allocated to the Justice Select Committee to assist with the Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill (if any) and what is the financial cost of that additional resource?
Rt Hon Gerry Brownlee: The Clerk has allocated 8 additional full time temporary staff to assist the Justice Committee secretariat with the Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill. The projected cost for the additional full time temporary staff, until 14 May 2025, is $189,000. The additional staff, and projected costing, exclude the 8 full time permanent staff the Clerk has allocated to the Justice Committee secretariat and other staff from across the Office of the Clerk who assist the secretariat when they are available. As a consequence of the allocation of full-time permanent staff, additional full time temporary staff are being recruited to join the secretariats supporting the other 11 subject select committees. The projected cost for these temporary staff, until 30 June 2025, is $70,000. Overtime for permanent staff in support of the Justice Committee with the Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill is forecast to cost approximately $13,000.
