1365 (2025). Hon Carmel Sepuloni to the Minister for Social Development and Employment: Does the increase of 22,000 people on the Jobseeker Support benefit compared to when she took office mean that the Minister will have to reduce Jobseeker Support recipients by at least 72,000 in order to meet her commitment of 2 December 2024 to reduce jobseeker recipients by 50,000 by 2030?
Hon Louise Upston: The government has greater aspirations for New Zealanders than a life spent on welfare, which is why we have a plan to support people into work and have 50,000 fewer people on Jobseeker Support benefits by 2030.
