1341 (2026). Hon Phil Twyford to the Minister of Immigration: How many FTEs, if any, are currently working on monitoring or addressing migrant exploitation at Immigration NZ, MBIE or any other relevant party?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised that at least 256 MBIE staff members have a role in monitoring and addressing migrant exploitation. This includes staff who work in Immigration Compliance and Investigations, the Labour Inspectorate and Immigration New Zealand. This may make up all or part of their workload. It is not possible to break down the FTE further. Note: previous responses provided to WPQs only included staff within the Immigration Compliance and Investigations branch working on addressing migrant exploitation. I am advised MBIE has subsequently undertaken a review to identify the involvement of staff across other areas.
