1338 (2024). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister responsible for the GCSB: What intelligence activity is the New Zealand government involved in abroad and particularly in the Pacific Islands?

Hon Judith Collins: The GCSB conducts intelligence activity in keeping with New Zealand’s National Security Intelligence Priorities, set by the Government. There are 14 National Security Intelligence Priorities, including “Pacific resilience and security”. In accordance with the Intelligence and Security Act 2017, the GCSB’s signals intelligence activity contributes to the protection of New Zealand’s national security, international relationships, economic wellbeing, and the safety and security of New Zealanders. Due to the nature of the GCSB’s work, it is not in the public interest for me to provide substantial details.
