1321 (2025). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: What specific plans, if any, does Kāinga Ora have to address the backlog of end-of-life assets beyond replacement sales?

Hon Chris Bishop: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advise me that it is focused on renewing its existing homes, and to ensure new homes are delivered that are better quality and better suited to its customers’ needs. As well as renewing homes through selling a home that is no longer fit for purpose and replacing it with a new home elsewhere, Kāinga Ora also: • Renovates homes through the retrofit programme (adding at least 50 years to their life); and • Removes homes and redevelops on the same land.
