1289 (2024). Tamatha Paul to the Associate Minister of Justice: Does the Minister agree with New Zealand Police that “there is limited evidence of illegal import of firearms. This means that firearms are flowing from licensed firearm owners into the hands of unlicensed people, some of whom intend to commit crime and cause harm”, and if so, will she take action to prevent licensed firearm owners selling or losing firearms to unlicensed individuals?
Hon Nicole McKee: Illicit firearms are obtained through a variety of means such as illegal importation, straw-purchasing, and domestic manufacture. This Government has committed to a number of actions to prevent firearms from falling into the wrong hands.
