Hon Judith Collins: The Public Service Commissioner has the authority under the Public Service Act 2020 to decide the designation for Public Service chief executives and Secretaries. I am advised in this case, the Commissioner felt the ‘Secretary for Economic Growth’ designation signals the mandate of the role more clearly within the public sector and in a way that resonates more strongly with businesses and internationally. It also reinforces the Commissioner’s desire for a public service that is outcomes focused and organised around citizens and businesses.
