1270 (2024). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for National Security and Intelligence: Has he asked officials for any advice on whether the Israeli Defence Force should be declared a terrorist group; if not, why not?

Rt Hon Christopher Luxon: The statutory decision-making powers relating to the designation of terrorist entities under the Terrorism Suppression Act 2002 (the Act) falls within my portfolio of Prime Minister. I am responding to this Written Parliamentary Question in my capacity as the Prime Minister. In my capacity as Prime Minister, I have not sought advice from officials in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet regarding this matter. The Act is not intended to respond to conduct by states during armed conflict, which are subject to other mechanisms under international law, such as the International Criminal Court.
