1170 (2024). Lan Pham to the Associate Minister for the Environment: How many, if any, dairy farmers does the Ministry for the Environment consider did not report their synthetic fertiliser use in the year 2022/2023?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: Dairy farms are only required to report on synthetic nitrogen fertiliser use. I am advised that although the exact number of dairy farms is not known, the Ministry for the Environment estimates that approximately 3,900 dairy farmers did not submit reports in 2022/23. This is an improvement on the estimated 5,400 not reporting in the previous year.
