1165 (2024). Lan Pham to the Minister for the Environment: What directives, if any, has the Minister given to Regional Councils regarding the implementation of the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management and the Government's plans for replacement?

Hon Penny Simmonds: In February this year I met with the Otago Regional Council, along with Hon Chris Bishop and Hon Todd McClay. We gave a very clear message that the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management will be reviewed and replaced in this term of Parliament and that it would be unwise to spend ratepayers’ money to continue to progress plan changes at this time given freshwater management will be subject to change.
