Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: Does the Minister stand by his statement in regards to the SH1/SH29 intersection upgrade “The roundabout has been designed to connect into a new Road of National Significance between Cambridge and Piarere”; if so, when was this design choice made and by whom?

Hon Simeon Brown: Corrected reply: Yes. I am advised that the NZTA Board approved the SH1 Cambridge to Piarere Long Term Improvements Detailed Business Case on 27 May 2021. However, I have also been advised that the Cambridge to Piarere project did not align with the objectives of the previous government's Government Policy Statement on land transport, resulting in delays to the project. Our government is committed to delivering this critical project for the Waikato and has listed SH1 Cambridge to Piarere as a new Road of National Significance.
