923 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: What process does the Minister intend to follow to ensure public consultation on evidence and alternatives before committing to long-term transport investments of national significance?
Hon Chris Bishop: I am currently working on the draft Government Policy Statement on land transport 2027 (GPS) and intend to release it for public consultation in mid-2026. This will give the public a chance to comment on the priorities and level of investment, before the GPS is finalised. NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is responsible for the public consultation. Consultation occurs according to specific scope, process and consultation principles set out in the Land Transport Management Act 2003. As NZTA is responsible for planning and delivering these projects, I expect that NZTA will undertake the appropriate consultation on projects as per legislative requirements.
