923 (2025). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Police: How many firearms offenses have been committed during December 2024, broken down by how many resulted in charges being laid, and how many of those offenders were firearm license holders?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that Police considers firearms-related offences to be any offences in the Arms Act 1983 and any offences containing firearms. In December 2024, there were 716 such offences. Of these offences, 409 offences have resulted in a prosecution as at 30 January 2025. It is important to note that these prosecutions and are not convictions – they may still be before the courts or individuals may have been charged and subsequently acquitted. Some offences may still be under investigation and therefore no offender has yet been identified, while in some offences an offender may have been identified but proceeded against by means other than prosecution. Eighteen of the prosecuted offences had at least one offender who had a standard firearms licence at the time of the offence, involving eight unique offenders. Four of those offenders have now been Revoked and the remaining four are in the process of Considering Revocation.
