858 (2024). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Education: Does the Minister agree with the May 2020 Education and Workforce Select Committee response to the Petition of Helen Houghton: Stop transgender teaching in New Zealand Schools, "All young people need access to information about sexuality-related issues - gender being one of the key areas"; if not, why not?
Hon Erica Stanford: It is important that young people have access to information about relationships and sexuality. Both schools and whānau play an important role in this.
As part of the Ministry of Education’s planned refresh of the health and physical education learning area of the New Zealand Curriculum later this year, the relationships and sexuality education guidelines will be revisited and revised to ensure they continue to meet the needs of school communities.
