838 (2024). Darleen Tana to the Minister for Biosecurity: What agreements, if any, have the Ministry of Primary Industries made with hapū/iwi regarding the ongoing caulerpa infestation, listed by agreement, hapū/iwi, date and time?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: I am advised the Ministry for Primary Industries has had a variety of agreements with hapū/iwi in the areas where exotic caulerpa has been detected. Broadly these have been agreements to hold membership and decision-making roles in local governance or on steering groups in relation to the incursion, or agreements to participate in operational activity aimed at managing the incursion. This later work has included surveillance, funding to carry out community outreach through ‘ambassador’ programmes, funding to undertake removal trials, and resourced to participate in technical advisory groups.
