836 (2024). Darleen Tana to the Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology: What is her plan, if any, for ensuring that marine research being undertaken by the Sustainable Seas National Science Challenge continues when funding for that Challenge ends on 4 September 2024?

Hon Judith Collins: The Sustainable Seas National Science Challenge has contributed substantial research efforts towards understanding and promoting sustainability within our marine ecosystems. As with all National Science Challenges, it was planned as a time-bound initiative, aimed at progressing specific research priorities within the 10 year timeframe. I will continue consulting with officials on how to best optimise opportunities for the research sector while still being cognisant of the tight fiscal environment.
