824 (2025). Ingrid Leary to the Minister for Mental Health: Would the Minister consider introducing stab-proof vests and personal alarms, for those working in mental health call-outs; if not, what, if anything, can he provide to ensure personal safety of health professionals?
Hon Matt Doocey: I am advised that introducing personal alarms and stab-proof vests would be an operational decision for Health NZ.
I am further advised that Health NZ has an ongoing programme of work to support staff to identify and manage violence and aggression across all its services and settings. Resources and support is available for staff working in community to help manage this risk. Actions in place include training, risk assessment tools, and, where appropriate, tools such as personal alarms and safety apps. This programme is continuously reviewed and changes made in response to any learnings.
