763 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What modelling, if any, has been conducted to ascertain the staffing numbers required in order to facilitate the extended breast screening program the Minister is proposing?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora has done initial population modelling for the projected number of additional breast screens to be undertaken each year. Based on this modelling, BreastScreen Aotearoa service providers have estimated approximately 50 additional staff will be required across the country for the extended programme. I am further advised that these models are early, unvalidated calculations and that detailed population modelling is underway to help service providers develop detailed resourcing plans. Resourcing requirements for the wider health system will be investigated during implementation planning.
