713 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Corrections: Is every prisoner at New Plymouth Remand Centre accorded the right to one thirty minute visit of a private visitor every week as provided for in section 73 of the Corrections Act 2004?

Hon Mark Mitchell: The New Plymouth Remand Centre, which is staffed by Corrections but is located at New Plymouth Police Station, operates on weekdays to house people who are required to attend court proceedings in New Plymouth. Therefore, it does not have the facilities to permit visits in the same manner as prison sites. People who have been moved to New Plymouth Remand Centre to appear in court usually return to the prison where they reside following their appearance in court, and continue to have access to visits in accordance with that prison’s visits regime.
