533 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: What aspects of its responsive maintenance work is Kāinga Ora reviewing through its Maintenance Delivery System pilot and what information, if any, is being collected to measure potential efficiencies, cost savings or process improvements?

Hon Chris Bishop: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that a Maintenance Delivery System (MDS) pilot began in April 2025 and was originally expected to run until February 2026, as noted in WPQ 43293 (2025). The pilot has since been extended to around June 2026. The pilot aimed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Kāinga Ora responsive maintenance work by refining processes, activity management, and cost control, while continuing to meet tenant needs. The pilot is expected to incur around $1.5 million in additional costs across its full duration. These costs have already been fully absorbed within existing budgets, as the pilot region is currently tracking approximately $2 million under budget this financial year. The pilot is now entering its latter stages, with most learnings nearing completion. Decisions on which elements will proceed to implementation, and the timing of any changes, remain under consideration and are expected to be confirmed before the pilot concludes.
